BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the suspect involved in the assault on a woman inside her home in the Cane Bay area.
Brandon Keith Sigmon, 31, of 257 Westbrook St. Summerville has been charged with burglary 1st degree, two counts of assault 1st degree, three counts of didnapping and possession of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.
According to an incident report, a deputy was on the phone with his wife when Sigmon kicked the back door of their home in and came inside.
The deputy called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers his wife was screaming and then the phone connection was lost.
When officers arrived on scene, the victim stated that Sigmon initially knocked on her front door and asked her if she wanted to buy a Kirby vacuum cleaner. The victim told Sigmon that she wasn’t interested.
Sigmon then reportedly asked to speak to the victim’s husband. She then told the man that if he did not leave, she’d call police.
The report stated that Sigmon walked away from the front door with his hands up and stated, “Okay, ma’am, ok ma’am.”
The victim then called her husband to inform him about the encounter and how Sigmon’s behavior made her nervous. The victim stated that before she could walk out of the front foyer area of her home, she heard the glass shatter on her back door.
Sigmon allegedly then entered the victim’s house and charged at her. The victim told police that Sigmon demanded that she get off the phone and began to punch her with his hand and then hit her in the head with his handgun.
According to the victim, she asked Sigmon what he wanted and he appeared to get angrier and continued to hit her. The victim stated that Sigmon pushed her head against the wall several times as well.
The victim told police that her 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son were crying and the suspect advised her to shut them up. When the children would stop crying, the victim stated that Sigmon pushed her son and he fell against the wall.
The victim was able to escape the house with her son. As she was leaving the house, she told police that she saw Sigmon run out of her home and jump over the backyard fence.
Several neighbors ran to help the victim. When deputies arrived on scene, they saw that the victim had several cuts and scratches on her face and hands. The victim’s front tooth was broken and her forehead was swollen and red. The victim told officers that she though Sigmon was going to kill her.
The mother of two was then transported to MUSC. Sigmon was later found by deputies.
He is being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center with a bond hearing scheduled for 7 pm.
