BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to Berkeley Electric officials, recently members have been receiving calls from scammers claiming to be with the Cooperative and threatening to disconnect service unless a payment is received.
This has prompted Berkeley Electric to make changes in the way it makes courtesy calls to its members.
The changes are as follows:
♦Courtesy calls will only be made on Monday-Friday from 8 am until 5 pm. No calls will be made on holidays, weekends or after hours.
♦Customer service representatives will no longer take payments from a member during the call. If a member wishes to make a payment immediately they will be transferred to BEC’s automated payment system. Otherwise the member should call back to the office during normal working hours and make a payment at their convenience.
