BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C—Unlike the last winter storm to hit the lowcountry, this time it’s brought with it even more power outages.
SCE&G is currently reporting that 3,351 people are without power in Berkeley County. That number is even bigger for Berkeley Electric. They are presently reporting that 26,358 customers are in the dark in Berkeley County.
Outages are primarily located in the upper part of BEC’s territory – Moncks Corner, New Hope, Lebanon, St. Stephen and Bonneau.
A Berkeley Electric spokesperson has stated that if you are trying to report an outage to please be aware that you may get a busy signal. All circuits are at maximum capacity due to the extensive number of outages, so please continue to try.
“We have crews on the ground working to restore the power as quickly and safely as possible,” said Berkeley Electric CEO Dwayne Cartwright.
SCE&G Crews have begun responding to outages across its service territory as a result of Winter Storm Pax. As of 10 a.m., there were approximately 25,000 outages across its entire service territory. Of course, those numbers are changing often as the winter weather continues to set in with ice and winds predicted to increase throughout the day.
More than 300 out of state crew members have joined 1,200 SCE&G field personnel to help restore power to customers in need as efficiently and safely as possible. SCE&G also is exploring the availability of additional assistance from out-of-state crews.
