GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler met with Girl Scout Troop 863 and representatives of Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina to sign a proclamation declaring the week of March 9-15, 2014 “Girl Scout Week” in Goose Creek. Girl Scouts of the USA offer a unique leadership development program where girls define leadership by making the world a better place by, discovering, connecting, and taking action in their local community.
Girl Scouts takes an active role in increasing girls’ awareness of the opportunities available to them today in math, science, sports, technology and health fields.
Wednesday, March 12, 2014 marks the 102nd anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA. The organization was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia. Throughout its distinguished history, Girl Scouting has helped build millions of girls into women of courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.
On January 20, 2007 more than 1,000 members from Girl Scouts of Carolina Low Country, Inc. and the Girl Scout Council of the Pee Dee Area, Inc. merged into Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina, Inc., creating a brand new service area that provides programming and services to 18,000 members in 21 eastern South Carolina counties.
