BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of Michael Adam Gilman (DOB: 10/22/1976) of Moncks Corner, S.C. on one (1) count involving the sexual exploitation of a minor. The Berkeley County Sheriffâs Office, a member of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, made the arrest.
On November 30, 2013, undercover detectives with the Berkeley County Sheriffâs Office downloaded a file containing child pornography from an Internet Protocol address for a cable account ultimately traced to Gilmanâs residence. Officers executed a search warrant there on February 25, 2014, and seized three computers and electronic storage media.
Gilman surrendered to authorities on March 4, 2014, and admitted to downloading child pornography. He was arrested and charged with one (1) count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, third degree (§16-15-410), a felony offense punishable by up to ten (10) years imprisonment. He was assigned a pr bond of $40,000 and ordered to have no contact with children under age 17 (except for his own child), have no access to the Internet or electronic devices capable of accessing it, and must remain at least two blocks from areas where children congregate, such as daycare facilities, playgrounds, schools, libraries and public parks.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
Attorney General Wilson stressed all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
