Several Berkeley County schools win big at Quest

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — Recently, several schools from the Berkeley County School District participated in the 28 Annual Quest Academic Competition at Trident Technical College.

This year’s event included 1,200 students representing 42 schools in the tri-county. Marrington Middle School, Goose Creek, won overall first place level one (sixth grade). Cane Bay, Summerville, came in second.

Berkeley County School District’s other results, including individual competition, are as follows.

Berkeley Middle School: Oliva Free won second place in Level two Composition.

Hanahan Middle School: Brittany Priester won second place in Level two Public Speaking.

Marrington Middle School: Jessica Scannell won second place in Level one in Public Speaking. Armoni Blount, Christian Castell, Nathan Gergick and Cailin Ramos won first place in Level one Math. Maddie Flynn, Ryan Jesses, Christian Rios and Elizabeth Siversten won second place in Level one Science. Finn Burnett won first place in Level two Creative Writing.

Sangaree Middle: Aiden Kramer, Ryan Hamill, Caitlyn Bilodeau and Madeja Collette won third place in Level two Social Studies. Grace Cavallier won third place in Level two Composition.

Berkeley Middle College: Haley Rogers won second place in Level four Public Speaking.

Berkeley High School: Victoria Metts was a quarter-finalist in Children’s Literature, Lauren Jackson was a quarter-finalist in Impromptu Speaking and a finalist and fifth place in the state, in Children’s Literature. Yaicha Ocampo placed thirteenth in Poetry Interpretation. Harrison McGlothlin placed thirteenth in Extemporaneous Speaking. Tristan Proctor placed twelfth in Congressional Debate. Andrew Butler was awarded novice state champion in Humorous Interpretation.

Hanahan High School: Ed Louis and Connor Schenk won second place in Level three Science. Andrea Vera, Mason Ingalls and Joseph Puryear won third place in Level four Math. Lindsay Arn, Nick Himmel, Jonelle Miller and Irvin Espuival won second place in Video/Film. Timothy Hertzog and James Hale won second and third place, respectively, in Computer Aided Design.

Stratford High School: Logan McLean, Parker McLean, Trevor Walden and Austin Greenwood won second place in Level four Science team. Kobie Dickerson won second place in Level three Public Speaking. Emily Hall, Alicia Perry, Taylor Atwood and Brandon Batteiger won first place in Culinary Arts team. Jacob Burbage and Shawn Pulley won second place in Automotive.

This annual event is possible because of Trident Technical College’s partnership with Google, Inc. Charitable Giving Fund at Tides Foundation. There were four levels of competition, Level one, sixth grade, Level two,seventh and eighth grade, Level three, ninth and tenth grade and Level four, eleventh and twelfth grade. Participation in the levels earn points in team and individual competitions.
