Moncks Corner, S.C. – The Miss South Carolina Teen Princess America pageant crowned their 2014 winner, Miss Moncks Corner Erica Wilson, last weekend. Wilson is the daughter of John and Mary Wilson and is a junior at Berkeley High School.
She competed against ten other girls in Hartsville, South Carolina and had this to say about her experience, “I was proud to represent my town of Moncks Corner, I’ve grown up here all my life. So when I did go to state, to represent my hometown, I was absolutely honored to bring home the crown.”
Wilson will be competing for the national title in Florida, on July 14-19, “This means a lot to me because I love what this pageant represents and stands for. They actually support this organization called Give Kids the World in Orlando, Florida,” said Wilson.
According to her official Facebook page, the non-profit gives children with terminal illnesses and their families, a free week-long vacation at the organization’s 70 acre resort in Orlando.
Wilson gives thanks to her sponsors for helping to get her to this point, “Pageants can get pretty expensive, and if not for my sponsors, I would not be doing this. My heart goes out to them, and I appreciate them and what they do for me,” said Wilson.
Her current sponsors are Anna’s Bridal Boutique in Moncks Corner and Seaton Pointe. However, Wilson says she could still use more help, “I do need more sponsors, so that I can go to Nationals,” said Wilson.
To help raise money for National and to gain more sponsors, she will be holding a party at a date to be determined with food, dancing and a silent auction, but Wilson could still use help to organize the event. “We still need merchants to donate items to the auction as well as monetary sponsors,” said Wilson.
If Wilson wins at nationals in July, it will mean more than just a title.
“Princess America offers a lot of things to their queens, it could be anything from modeling jobs to scholarships,” said Wilson.
Winning scholarships is one of the big reasons she competes and says she may continue to compete even after finishing high school.
“I might keep doing pageants so I can get scholarships while I’m in college,” Wilson said.
Her hope is to go to Duke, The University of North Carolina or Wake Forest, where she would like to learn to become a physician and minor in Spanish. Wilson also has a passion for animals, and has set up a charity with her celebrity as a pageant winner.
“My passion has always been animals, so in May 2012, after I won my title of Miss Teen World Elite, I started my own non-profit Last Chance for Love,” said Wilson. Her charity takes animals, scheduled to be euthanize, and financially sponsors them until they are adopted and takes in rescues.
