BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—Dale Edwards Hicks will be spending many years behind bars after a Moncks Corner jury convicted him of sexually abusing a child Friday, according to Solicitor Scarlett Wilson’s office.
The trial lasted for three days inside the Berkeley County courtroom. After the jury reached its verdict, a judge sentenced Hicks to 35 years on criminal sexual conduct with a minor and 15 years on committing a lewd act upon a child, to run concurrently, according to the solicitor.
The 52-year-old will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
During the trial, Hick’s 11-year-old victims testified about the sexual abuse she received from him while she was between the ages of 5 and 9-years-old.
According to the solicitor’s office, the abuse occurred inside a Berkeley County home.
According to court records, he was first arrested for the crime in 2012. He was given a $150,000 surety bond and ordered to wear an electronic monitor and have no contact with the victim.
Court records show that Hicks had been living at a home on Starline Drive in Summerville.
