JAMESTOWN, S.C.—According to Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, one of the drivers involved in Saturday’s deadly wreck has been arrested and booked inside the Berkeley County detention center.
Jamie Shuler, 30, faces multiple charges: driving under suspension, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and DUI.
Saturday’s accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. on French Santee Road in Jamestown.
According to Collins, Shuler was driving a 2004 Chevy Z71 while her father, James Shuler, 67, was seated on the passenger’s side.
Collins says at some point the driver of a 2008 GMC Yukon attempted to make a left turn into a driveway when Shuler attempted to pass the Yukon in a no passing zone.
The officer said both vehicles landed in a ditch. Collins says the driver of the GMC Yukon was wearing a seatbelt; however, the driver’s condition is unknown at this time.
Berkeley County coroner, Bill Salisbury, pronounced Shuler’s father dead at the scene and she was taken to the jail.
At this time, a bond amount has yet to be set on the charges.
Collins says neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts inside the 2004 Chevy Z71.
The case still remains under investigation.
