GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler met with representatives of Berkeley County First Steps and local residents to sign a proclamation declaring the week of April 6-12, 2014 “Week of the Young Child” in Goose Creek.
The National Association for the Education of Young Children along with Berkeley County First Steps are working to improve early learning opportunities, including early literacy programs, that can provide a foundation of learning for children in the City of Goose Creek. During this week, the Mayor encourages all citizens to work to make a good investment in early childhood in the City of Goose Creek.
The Day Family are Goose Creek residents who participate in Berkeley County First Steps’ Parents As Teachers (PAT) program. PAT is a voluntary early education, home visitation program based on the philosophy that parents are a child’s first and most influential teacher. Using specially developed curriculum, trained parent educators work with parents of young children to enhance parenting skills, offer periodic screenings and provide developmental information.
