MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–A Huger man is facing multiple assault charges after deputies say he attacked two deputies inside the Berkeley County jail in late March.
According to the incident report, a detention officer was moving 30-year-old Benjamin Dubois III, of French Quarter Creek Road, to another location of the jail after reportedly covering the camera in his cell as well as kicking the door.
During the process, Dubois is said to have punched the officer in the face and managed to kick a lieutenant’s right hand and crush it against a steel cell door.
In the incident report, the officers managed to eventually restrain Dubois on the floor.
The officers were treated for their injuries by medics who arrived on the scene.
According to court documents, Dubois was already facing murder and assault charges for a separate incident dating back to May 28th, 2013.
The 30-year-old is accused of killing his former roommate, 55-year-old Jerry Miles, with golf club almost a year ago.
During that time, deputies responded to a home in Huger in reference to an assault. Once at the location, Dubois came to the front porch, disoriented and under the included of alcohol, according to the report.
At the time, Dubois stated that another man inside the house, Jerry Miles, came into his room and told him to “get the f*ck out of his house.” A short time later, Dubois says Miles hit him over the head with an ashtray before going into another room and beating another man, whose last name was Simmons, with a golf club as he slept.
Dubois reported that Miles then went into another room of the house where he started striking Simmons in the head with a golf club.
Simmons reportedly told officers that he had blacked out and that he didn’t remember anything about the incident.
When deputies arrived in the house, they found Miles on the couch in the living room incoherent and with multiple lacerations to his head and left hand.
Investigators later determined that Dubois had actually attacked Miles inside the home the two shared in Huger.
Miles later died in the hospital from complications from his injuries.
Dubois is currently awaiting trial.
