DORCHESTER CO., S.C.–According to an incident report, we now know that it was a woman checking on her couch kept inside a shed along Highway 61 who first discovered the body of 24-year-old Drew Shumway of Moncks Corner.
Shumway was reported missing just six days earlier on April 5th.
In the report, the woman told deputies the victim’s body was located on the floor of the shed. The woman also stated that her cousin owned the property, and she was planning to move onto it in the very near future.
After discovering the body, the woman said she immediately contacted 9-1-1. She reportedly told deputies that she saw an unfamiliar vehicle on the property just several days earlier.
Dorchester Co. Coroner, Chris Nisbet, was eventually called to the scene and later ruled that Shumway had been murdered with a gunshot wound to the head.
At this time, deputies have not made any arrests in the case, and it’s not known if there are any suspects. Authorities say the case is still under investigation.
According to a recent report by WCSC-TV, prior to Shumway’s murder he was scheduled to get married a week later.
