HANAHAN, S.C.–Shortly after midnight on early Monday morning, Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury says a 911 dispatcher received a call advising that large tree fell on a house at 5 Leone Ct. in the Otranto community of Hanahan.
The coroner says William Carl Klein, 72, was in his upstairs den, sitting in a chair when the tree fell and pinned him in. The nearby fire department worked to extricate him from the house. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from injuries he received from the accident.
Salisbury says the tree, which was located in Klein’s backyard, fell because of the recent heavy rain fall.
The death has been ruled accidental and was investigated by the Hanahan Police Dept. and The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
