MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Santee Cooper Board of Directors has named 4th Circuit Judge J. Michael Baxley as senior vice president and general counsel, effective July 1. Baxley will replace James E. Brogdon, who retires June 30.
Baxley was elected resident judge in the 4th Circuit in 2000, where he represents Darlington, Marlboro, Dillon and Chesterfield counties and has responsibilities for criminal and civil dockets for the circuit. Prior to becoming a judge, Baxley was managing partner of Driggers & Baxley law firm in Hartsville. He has been a practicing attorney in South Carolina since 1982.
Baxley has a bachelor of arts in political science from Clemson University and a juris doctor from the University of South Carolina. He is a member of the South Carolina, Darlington and American bar associations. He is married to Kristina Young Baxley.
