GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Goose Creek Police are investigating a playground fire that is believed to have been intentionally set. The playground is located at Fairfax Boulevard and Waterford Place.
According to witnesses who live in the subdivision, firefighters arrived on the scene approximately 6:15 p.m. and quickly started extinguishing the flames.
One young woman, who lives in the Fairfax subdivision, called 9-1-1 while driving into the neighborhood.
“I was shocked, sad, and scared,” said resident, Nikky Allen. “The people who were observing it next to me kept saying that we should probably evacuate because the trees were on fire and looked like it may spread. Fortunately, we didn’t need to leave our homes.”
There are approximately eight homes closest to the playground and hundreds more inside the subdivision.
So far, there is no word of any arrests.
Allen says police asked her and others nearby if they had seen anyone suspicious near the area.
