“The rescue squad is an all volunteer organization. We don’t charge a fee for our services,” said Bill Salisbury, who is not only the chief of the squad but also the county coroner.
Hundreds of people showed up to the event which took place at the Dennis Boat Landing in Moncks Corner. Former radio and TV personality, Dan Moon, served as the emcee and Kickin’ 92.5 FM was also on hand for the event while Lambert’s Catfish & BBQ served as the event’s official food vendor.
More than 60 fishermen entered the competition, many arriving as early as 5 a.m. The squad began setting up for the event at 3:30 a.m.
This year, the grand prize was a used truck and $1,000, along with a variety of smaller prizes for other placed winners.
Cousins, Joey Bishop and Cameron Clark, took home the grand prize. Their winning fish was over 50 pounds.
“There were some monster sized fish, it took us about thirty minutes to bring all of them in,” said Clark.
Along with the funds generated from the competition itself, the squad also sold t-shirts and raffle tickets. The money generated will be used to maintain the services the squad provides to the county.
