SOUTH CAROLINA–As of April 27, 2014, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety has reported that 223 people have died on South Carolina highways this year. This is compared to the 226 fatalities during the same time period in 2013.
Three of these fatalities occurred on South Carolina roadways just this past weekend, April 25, 2014 through April 27, 2014.
Troopers say that 88 of them were not wearing seat belts. The other numbers include 24 pedestrians, 18 motorcyclists, and four bicyclists.
Five of the fatal collisions occurred in Berkeley County. All five of the victims reportedly were not wearing their seat belts.
According to troopers, this is the lowest number of fatal collisions in Berkeley County in the last four years.
