JAMESTOWN, S.C.–Hundreds of people flocked to this year’s annual Hell Swamp Festival along Highway 17A in Jamestown this past weekend. According to organizers, the three-day event, which started Friday, attracted a little more than 2,000 people.
Along with the good food and amusement rides for the kids, the festival featured a parade, a 10K gator run, an arm wrestling contest, ugliest and cutest dog contest, horseshoe contest, and much more!
First started in 1969, early organizers created the event in order to provide a fun, positive atmosphere for families and help bring the Lowcountry community together.
Since its early days, believe it or not, folks from all over the globe have attended the event.
Last year, Michelle Holmes traveled all the way from Canada to experience some good ‘ol country fun and take part in the 10k gator run and walk.
She called it the “best race” ever in her blog called The Stories I Don’t Tell My Mom.
