Construction started on the nine-mile stretch between Moncks Corner and Summerville back in 2008. It was one of the first road projects to begin construction thanks to funds committed from the 2008 one-cent sales tax referendum, spearheaded by the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce.

On Monday, Berkeley County local elected officials, residents, and business owners celebrate this  long-awaited change in infrastructure.  They will meet at at Calvary Baptist Church in Moncks Corner at 11 a.m.  The public is invited to attend.

“This is one of many steps we are taking to ensure the roads are safer and more reliable not only for us, but for our children and our children’s children,” said Dan Davis, Berkeley Co. Supervisor.

According to county leaders, due to the poor condition of South Carolina’s roads and costs to its taxpayers this is a leading accomplishment for Berkeley County.

The construction started to improve the route between Moncks Corner and Summerville.  County leaders says because South Carolina is known for its poor road conditions, the completion of this road construction was a big step for Berkeley County.
