HUGER, S.C.–According to Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury, shortly before 8:30 a.m. the 911 Dispatch Center received a call of a missing man at the Quinby Creek Boat Landing on Cainhoy Road.
The Berkeley County Rescue Squad, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, SC DNR, and the local fire dept. started a search of the creek.
Salisbury says a truck was found at the boat ramp with the engine still running. Searchers also found a cell phone, a wallet, shoes, and a shirt on the dock.
The coroner says the boat had floated down stream several hundred yards. The body of 67-year-old John Profit of Huger was found at 10:11 a.m. near the boat.
The death is under investigation by the Coroner’s Office to determine the cause of death. Salisbury no foul play is suspected. More information will be released as it becomes available.
