MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–A 70-year-old Moncks Corner man is recovering at MUSC after Chief Timothy Stephenson with the Whitesville Rural Fire Department says a shed collapsed on him earlier this morning. Stephenson says the man had been trapped underneath the shed located on Sumner Lane for about seven hours.
The fire chief stated that it looked as if the man had been trying to demolish the wooden shed prior to it collapsing on top of him.
The man’s grandson reportedly found his grandfather trapped under the shed around 6 p.m. Monday and quickly dialed 9-1-1. Whitesville Rural Fire Department along with Moncks Corner Rural responded to the scene a few minutes after 6 p.m.
According to Stephenson, his crews had to remove the shed’s roof and wall from on top of the elderly man.
The fire chief says he was airlifted to MUSC in stable condition.
