“Our message to the Lowcountry is that the museum has experienced a remarkable renaissance over the last few years that propels the museum to the historical and cultural forefront of Berkeley County,” said Willard Strong, chairman of the museum’s board of directors. “We are appealing to the Lowcountry, particularly the business community, to support the museum as we move forward.”

Former state Sen. Robert L. Helmly of Moncks Corner, who is CEO of Home Telecom, was the guest speaker at the event. He challenged those who value the preservation and promotion of history and culture to support the 22-year-old museum by becoming a member and encouraging businesses and industry to also step forward.

“Berkeley County has such a tremendous and rich history, and I cannot imagine not having this facility as part of our community,” said Helmly, a long-time museum patron. “I am proud of our county and this museum reflects what we have in Berkeley County in such a positive way.”

Membership levels are: Individual: $35; Family: $50; Patriot: $100; Lords Proprietor: $250; Lord Berkeley: $500; General Moultrie Level: $1,000. The museum is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization and contributions are tax deductible.

The reception was a concerted effort by the museum and the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce.
