Have you ever wondered what the Crew’s Galley on the USS Yorktown May have looked like when it was in working order? While the USS Yorktown was in use, over 7,500 meals were prepared and then served to 2,500 crew members daily.
Thanks to a $12,500 grant from the Henry and Sylvia Yaschik Foundation, the Crew’s Galley has been brought back to life–complete with mannequins, food props, and even sound effects!”
“It’s one thing to stand where our heroes stood,” Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette said, “but now you can actually see what they saw and hear what they heard while waiting in line for their meals.”
Burdette went on to say that you truly have to experience the exhibit to really understand what it must have been like living onboard an aircraft carrier.
The Crew’s Galley exhibit took only a year to complete and is located on the third deck of the USS Yorktown.
