The South Carolina Highway Patrol has announced the promotion of John T. Manley as commander of the Troop Six area, which includes Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester and Jasper counties.
Manley, formerly a lieutenant in the Troop, succeeds Capt. J.C. Filyaw who recently announced his retirement after 31 years of service to the Highway Patrol.
“We are fortunate to have someone with Capt. Manley’s experience and qualifications,” said Highway Patrol Col. Mike Oliver. “He has dedicated most of his professional career to the Highway Patrol, joining the ranks at 21 years old. He knows this area of the state well and will continue moving us forward in our Target Zero mission to save lives.”
Manley joined the Highway Patrol in 1991 and began his career in Berkeley County. He has served in Troops Five, Six and Seven.
He was promoted to corporal in Troop Seven/Orangeburg in November 2004, to sergeant in Orangeburg in 2008 and to first sergeant in Aiken in 2010. He went back to Troop Six in March 2013 as a lieutenant.
He and his wife, Jennifer, have three sons, Damon, 19, Rylan, 11, Holliston, 3. Manley’s mother, Josetta Manley, lives in Moncks Corner.
