Weighing nearly 500 pounds, man undergoes extreme weight loss

The Palmetto State’s relationship with food appears to be worsening. Studies show that South Carolina is now the seventh most obese state in the nation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 67% of South Carolina adults are overweight and 32% are obese.

Just in Berkeley County alone, the typical guy weighs 200 pounds and 169 pounds for women—both slightly higher than the national average.

For one man who’s struggled with his weight almost his entire life, he was determined to get fit. Carlos Castro of the Atlanta area once topped the scale at 446 pounds.  Morbidly obese, Carlos was slowly eating himself to death.

“Sweets were my weakness,” admitted Carlos. “Society has no problem sticking a basket full of sweets in a person’s face when he or she is doing their best to stay away from them. It’s those same people who would never think of offering wine or beer to an alcoholic. Food is an addiction, too.”

Like many people, Carlos was a yo-yo dieter, trying every diet pill and plan known to man.

“The weight gain was gradual and then I simply started to get used to it,” said Castro. “Because I traveled a lot for work and was around friends and family who made poor eating choices. It was hard to eat healthy.”

The weight loss began when Carlos met fitness expert, Bruce Wayne, who turned him onto the Armageddon weight loss fitness program.

“When I met Carlos, he seemed lost,” said Bruce. “However, he was really determined to lose the weight, and what stood out to me was how hard he tried.”

According to Bruce, the program targets specific lifestyle choices and is made up of 16 health and medical experts.

“Armageddon is the only program that starts with an in-depth analysis of each and every member—not just height, weight, target weight, etc. which are standard for many programs,” said Dr. Mary Maida, a molecular neuroscientist based in Rochester, New York. “The program’s upfront analysis digs much deeper into lifestyle factors. For example, are you a morning owl? What is the WHY behind your desire to join Armageddon Weight Loss?”

In two years, Carlos got rid of the weight. Today, he is 238 pounds thinner and is now training to compete in the next Summer Olympics as a rower.  He has also inspired his young son to lose 50 pounds and his daughter recently set a world record for indoor rowing.
