BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–If you have children, then you know they can be pretty expensive–especially when it comes to getting them ready for the new school year.
According to district officials, it costs approximately $17-$30 to purchase supplies for a Berkeley Country School District (BCSD) elementary student and approximately $27-$51 to purchase supplies for a middle or high school student.
Teachers have costs, too, of course. Across the county, they spend approximately $500 a year in classroom supplies.
That’s why the Berkeley Co. School District has launched its annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign to make sure students in need as well as educators are ready to go back to school fully prepared. Once again, district officials are encouraging everyone to “Get On the Bus” and help students and teachers prepare for a successful year of learning and fun.
To donate, visit any participating Walmart to drop off your back-to-school items in special bins located at the front of the store.
BCSD schools and businesses began collecting supplies for families in financial need a few days ago; however, there is still time and many ways for individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to get involved. Visit BCSDSchools.net to find a list of items students are still in need of.
If your business, church/faith-based institution, or organization would like to be a collection site for the 2014 “Stuff the Bus, Berkeley!” campaign contact the district at [email protected] or (843) 899-8732.
Monetary donations can be made with ease by visiting Berkeley.K12.SC.US and clicking the “Support Our District” button located on the homepage.
From now until September 3, 2014 all clicks will be directed to the website of South Carolina Future Minds, a trusted 501c3 charity that helps connect private donors to public schools. Tax-deductible contribution made to this site will be used to purchase supplies for Berkeley County students in need.
Success is right around the corner! Be sure to register students for the 2014-2015 school year prior to the first day. Visit the Back-To-School Portal on the BCSD website to find all the resources your family will need to be ready for class. School is back in session on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
