BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is preparing for a safe return to school by having deputies positioned at schools that requires additional attention due to an overly abundant amount of traffic steaming from first day attendees, student drivers, and working parents dropping their kids off.
“This can create a very difficult and frustrating scenario for all, with the flow of traffic resulting in congestion,” stated Dan Moon, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office. “Deputies will be out in full force to help create a smooth and safe transition for all returning to school. However, they will be out in the school zones enforcing traffic laws and issuing citations to those who fail to adhere to the rules in the school zones.”
On Tuesday, August 19th, 2014, assigned deputies will be out patrolling at various schools to monitor traffic flow and help assist with other needs.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office will work with the Berkeley County Schools District to help make 2014/15 school year a smooth and safe transition for all returning students, parents and administrators.
The public is advised to use caution and slow down while approaching School Zones, as some kids will be walking to and from school.
Pay close attention to stopped school buses, making sure not to pass in a must stop area and to adhere to caution lights during school hours.
