MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson announced today that defendant, Anthony “Tony” Moody, was found guilty of Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature on Tuesday.
Circuit Court Judge Roger Young sentenced Moody to ten years suspended to three years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections followed by five years of probation.
Moody was represented by Beau Seaton and had numerous prior domestic violence convictions, Wilson stated. The solicitor praised the victim for seeing the prosecution through.
“With victims working with us and standing beside us, we can win convictions against batterers like this guy,” said Wilson.
Assistant Solicitor Charles M. Condon, Jr., who prosecuted the case, stated that the victim had recently split with the defendant because of repeated but unreported violent attacks against her.
On September 25, 2013, the victim saw Moody at a local Moncks Corner bar. Moody persuaded the victim to return to his home. When they got to his house, Moody looked through her phone and became enraged when he saw that she had been texting another man.
In a fit of rage, Wilson stated that Moody pushed the victim into the bathtub where she was trapped and brutally assaulted. The first punch immediately caused her left eye to swell shut. He continued to hit her. In all, he punched her approximately 10 to 15 more times about the head and face.
The victim testified that she thought she was going to die as Moody stated, “if I can’t have you then no one can.”
Fortunately, the victim was eventually able to knock his glasses off and escape. Unable to call 911, the victim drove to a friend’s house. Upon her arrival, the friend immediately called 911. The friend, who testified, described her as looking like the “elephant man” and with swelling that was so bad that her face looked like a basketball.
The victim was transported to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a blowout fracture to her left orbital rim, severe swelling to her face, bruising all over her body, and several broken teeth.
The victim’s eye was swollen shut for about two weeks, and she still has ongoing problems with it.
After the attack, the victim reunited with the defendant a few times and even discussed dropping charges with defense counsel.
Condon stated, “Unfortunately, this behavior is common because at one point there were strong feelings between the two. It took courage for the victim to finally stand up to him. I hope this case will help give other victims the courage to get out of violent relationships and let us and law enforcement.”

I have to say, I can’t believe it took this long. I am sorry for his family, but this behavior has been an ongoing problem for Moody. I know, I was one of his victims. I didn’t press charges, but the Town of Bonneau did. He is a real piece of work. I don’t know what happened in his life to make him think so little of women, but at least for the next few years, he won’t have women to worry about! Looks like I just got a front row seat to KARMA!
