BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—According to Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Dan Moon, deputies are currently looking for a suspect who assaulted a woman inside her home this afternoon in the Cane Bay area.

Moon stated that around 2 p.m., an individual was going door to door in the Cane Bay area selling vacuum cleaners. He entered one woman’s home and then attacked her, officials say.  They say he could be possibly armed.

Moon says the suspect  fled the scene.

Both Cane Bay middle and high school went on lockdown shortly after the incident.

Deputies have set up a command center in the Publix parking lot off Cane Bay Boulevard. A helicopter is assisting the search for the suspect.
