BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Mayson, a seventh grade student at Marrington Middle School, has shown an interest in politics since she was a toddler.

Last May Mayson Merritt, 12, asked her grandmother if she could start a Republican kids’ club in Berkeley County.

During the 2012 presidential campaign, she met almost all of the Republican Primary candidates while taking pictures at their local events, even scoring a tour of Michele Bachman’s  and the national republican party’s buses.

Her grandmother made arrangements for her to be on the agenda of the BCRP Executive Committee to pitch her idea.

Mayson wowed the committee with her presentation, won their approval, along with a budget, and has since developed a plan for a great kickoff event for kids and parents alike.

Mayson contacted her mentor, Senator Tim Scott, and enlisted him to be the keynote speaker at the inaugural event October 11, 2014.

All Republican and non-partisan election candidates are invited to attend to meet and speak with the kids and their parents.

Mayson has broadened the scope of the event to include all kids in the Lowcountry, hoping that other county sponsored clubs will spin off from this one.

The Republican Kids’ Club kickoff will be held at the Hanahan Amphitheater, 3100 Mabeline Road in Hanahan, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm on October 11, 2014.
