What was supposed to be a friendly Craigslight hookup turned into a violent rape for a Ladson woman, according to investigators with the Charleston Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies have since charged John Phillip Burnside, 33, of Hanahan with 1st degree criminal sexual conduct. He’s been booked into the Charleston Co. Detention Center.
Investigators say on August 19th, Burnside went to the victim’s home for a “mutually agreed upon meeting” after the two met through a personal ad on Craigslist.
Initially, deputies say when Burnside arrived at the victim’s home, the two began having sex.
Deputies say Burnside then began “spanking” the victim who told him, ‘stop, you are hurting me.’
According to the affidavit, Burnside continued to hit the victim even as she pleaded with him to stop, and then pinned the victim to the bed using his hands and body to prevent her from moving.
Officers say he then rolled the victim onto her back and tied her up with rope and later forced her to perform oral sex on him.
The victim told deputies that she was “gasping and gagging” and felt like she was choking.
Burnside reportedly did not untie the victim until he was completely dressed and just before exiting the home.
Investigators say that Burnside was later identified during a photographic lineup.
