BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—According to the district’s Chief Administrative Officer Deon Jackson, Sheldon Etheridge has announced his resignation as school board member for District 6.
The district includes Sangaree, St. Stephen, Cross, Macedonia and Moncks Corner.
His resignation comes after announcing a move to Clarendon County.
Jackson says Etheridge’s last day will be September 30th.
His term was not set to expire until November 2014. He joined the school board in 2010.
There will not be a special election for Etheridge’s seat since it is up during the November general election. A new person will take over after the general election, according to Adam Hammonds, Berkeley County Elections & Registration Director.
Etheridge’s resignation comes just days after Superintendent Rodney Thompson requested to be released from his contract.
