BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—After endorsing Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler for the county supervisor position, there was wide speculation that Jerry Beckley would likely join Peagler in some capacity on the county level.
However, Beckley says that will not be happening. On Friday, he says he informed the supervisor-elect via e-mail that he has decided not to join his administration at this time.
“My decision is personal in nature, and I plan to focus more of my time on getting conservative republican’s elected to office, and I will continue to be involved in the political process,” Beckley stated.
During the June 10th primary, Beckley received 16.28% of the vote. Because neither Peagler nor longtime county supervisor Dan Davis received 50% of the vote, there was a runoff.
After coming in third, Beckley endorsed Peagler just one day after the primary and began assisting the mayor with his campaign for county supervisor.
On June 24th, Peagler received 56.2% of the vote beating Davis. Beckley celebrated the win with Peagler at his campaign party held at the Moncks Corner Train Depot.
“Bill will make an outstanding supervisor,” Beckley said after Peagler’s win.
Peagler will be sworn in his new position sometime in January.
