HANAHAN, S.C.—Hanahan city leaders recently approved the hiring of Joseph “Bo” Bowers as the new fire chief.
He replaces Jerry Barham who retired several months ago after serving as the city’s chief for approximately twenty years.
Bowers is currently the battalion chief at the Awendaw Fire District where he has worked since 1991, serving as battalion chief for the past 11 years.
He holds a master’s in public administration, bachelor’s in public safety administration, and associates in fire Science and technology.
“We are very excited to have Bo Bowers join our team as the fire chief for the City of Hanahan,” stated Mayor Newman-Blackwell. “Bo comes to us with excellent qualifications and experience and has extensive training and education that are sure to benefit our department and city. We look forward to introducing Bo to our community and staff and are excited for the future of our Fire Department under his leadership.”
According to city leaders, they received 48 applications for the position which included eight finalists.
Bowers’ first day on the job will be Friday, October 10th.
