Berkeley County students have exceeded the South Carolina average class scores on end-of-course exams for the fifth year in a row, according district school officials. The South Carolina Secretary of Education released the 2013-2014 results on Tuesday, September 30.
The district has balanced its continued growth and expansion with concentration on maintaining rigorous classroom standards. This focus has helped Berkeley students continue to outpace the state’s median standards. Performance analysis indicated that students exceeded the state averages in almost every grade in almost every category.
Berkeley County Superintendent, Dr. Rodney Thompson said, “ I am pleased with the results and I realize that this had been the culmination of a team effort combining parents, students and teachers to continue to surpass the state trends. We have been working many years to enhance our classroom delivery and student retention. These results speak very well for all of our students, parents and educators.”
End-of-course exam scores count for 20 percent of a student’s grade. It is a statistical yardstick to measure how population segments and demographic groups are performing.
Teachers use the data compiled by the S.C. Secretary of Education to see how their student populations have retained information by the end of the school year.
This 2013-2014 end-of-course exam information is a good indication of how the Berkeley County School District and the Lowcountry grasp the challenge or producing a skilled and talented workforce for our growing high tech and service economy.
