MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — Navigational dredging operations are scheduled to begin this week in the Diversion Canal between channel markers 30 and 32, where the Diversion Canal enters Lake Moultrie.
In keeping with the terms of its federal license, Santee Cooper has contracted with a dredging company to remove approximately 100,000 yards of sediment in the Diversion Canal.
Dredge work will be conducted day and night and will continue through the end of 2014.
Boaters are urged to use caution, to maintain a safe distance from the work zone established by the contractor, and to be mindful of their wake as they pass through the work zone.
The Diversion Canal is located between lakes Marion and Moultrie in the Cross/Pineville area of Berkeley County.
Dredging of the Diversion Canal was last conducted in 1988.
Boaters can call 1-800-92-LAKES for real-time information for the Santee Cooper Lakes system. Additional lakes information is also available at www.santeecooper.com.
