BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—Another school board member is throwing in the towel several months before his term is officially up.
Doug Cooper, who represents Daniel Island and part of Hanahan in District 2, resigned from his position on September 24th. His term did not officially expire until November.
Cooper was not seeking re-election.
Daniel Island residents Mac McQuillin and Rindy Ryan are currently running for the District 2 seat in the nonpartisan election.
Cooper’s resignation came shortly after District 6 board member Sheldon Etheridge stepped down due to a move out of the county.
It was during this time that Superintendent Rodney Thompson asked to be released from his contract at the end of the year.
