BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—According to Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Spokesperson Dan Moon, officers responded to a residential alarm late Friday night at 318 Village Green Circle.
Moon says the deputies met with a 21-year-old male victim who indicated that he had set the alarm after fleeing a home where he was being held there against his will.
Officials say the victim indicated that he had been lured into the home by Rueben Alton Gretton, 36, who lives inside the home.
The victim said he knew Gretton because he sometimes cuts his lawn. One inside the garage, Gretton allegedly shut the door and led the victim into another room where Gretton allegedly pointed a shotgun at the victim and forced him to undress.
Once undressed, Gretton allegedly bound the victim with rope, wire ties and surgical tubing.
According to the victim, Gretton allegedly beat the victim and burned him with a lit cigarette.
Deputies say the victim had what appeared to be cigarette burns on his body and ligature marks on his neck and wrists.
Detectives from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant for the residence and seized several items as evidence, including the victim’s clothing and wallet.
Gretton was taken into custody Wednesday night with the assistance of the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force and will have a bond hearing tonight at 7:00pm at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner.
He is charged with kidnapping, assault 1st degree, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and manufacturing marijuana.
