GOOSE CREEK, S.C.—Every nine seconds a woman is assaulted or beaten in the United States, according to the latest statistics.
According to the Violence Policy Center in Washington, South Carolina ranks number one in the country for domestic violence.
The state’s rate of women murdered by men of 2.54 per 100,000 was more than double the national average.
To bring awareness to the problem, the City of Goose Creek will host a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, October 21 at 6:30 p.m. behind Goose Creek City Hall to honor victims of domestic violence.
The event will feature special guest, author, activist and survivor Lorrie H. Boddie. This event is free and open to the public.
