HANAHAN, S.C.—Longtime Hanahan mayor Minnie Blackwell is running unopposed in the upcoming November 4th General Election.
Her name will be the only one on the ballot for mayor. Write-in candidates, however, will be allowed.
After the upcoming election, Blackwell’s term will expire in November 2018.
Blackwell was first elected to city council in 1995 before being elected as mayor in November of 2002.
She has been teaching for over 20 years and is presently is the Career Acadeny and STEM Facilitator for the Dorchester School District in Summerville, South Carolina.
Along with the mayor’s race, Hanahan voters will also decide three council seats.
Councilmen Michael Sally, Kevin Cox and Dan Owens are all running for re-election.
New comer Bill Healy, a Hanahan resident and grandfather originally from New York, is also hoping for a win.
Healy gained the attention of the local media after speaking passionately before the Berkeley County School Board in August, urging Hanahan city leaders and school leaders to work together to build a new school for the Hanahan area.
