BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–On Monday around 11:15 a.m. Lawrence Phillips, 70, of Eutawville was the back seat passenger in a minivan when it ran head-on with a logging truck, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.
The coroner says the accident happened on Old State Road near the Wassamassaw Swamp Bridge.
He was pronounced dead on the scene by the coroner. Salisbury says the elderly man was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver and front seat passenger were transported to MUSC and their conditions are unknown at this time.
Salisbury says Phillips’ death has been ruled accidental and was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
