GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–According to Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury, on Wednesday night the body of a 54-year-old woman was found in a pond located in the Liberty Hall Plantation subdivision.
She was discovered by police around 11 p.m. at 144 Old Jackson Road.
It was her husband, police say, who reported his wife, Susan Smith, missing.
At this time, it’s unknown if her death is considered accidental or suspicious.
“I am unable to discuss the specifics of Ms. Smith’s condition nor speculate on her cause of death,” stated Captain John Grainger with the Goose Creek Police Department.
Currently, the investigation is ongoing by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the Goose Creek Police Dept. to determine Smith’s cause of death.
An autopsy will be conducted on Friday. Salisbury says more details will be released following the autopsy.
