BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—The law enforcement community is mourning the sudden and unexpected loss of one of their own.
According to friends, Officer Robert Blajszczak passed away Sunday as a result of complications from an aortic dissection he suffered during a traffic stop just days earlier.
Before joining the Summerville Police Department in 2007, Blajszczak, known as “Lumpy” and “Blaze” by many of his friends, spent six years with the Moncks Corner Police Department and as a detention officer at the Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office.
He had been working for the traffic unit at the Summerville Police Department before his untimely death. He was one of nine officers assigned to this division, according to the department’s website.
Since his untimely passing, one thing is clear. He was a man loved by many.
“Thank you, Robert, for making me feel at home when I first moved to Summerville. It felt so good knowing someone from my hometown of Cheektowaga, NY,” wrote Rebecca Wnek on
Facebook. “You truly had a love of life and for your former hometown’s teams. You truly are an amazing individual and you are very much missed.”
For many who knew Blajszczak, he will be remembered for his amazing sense of humor and his love for helping others in need.
“I will always remember you with the smiles and jokes,” wrote Karen Johnson. “You were such a goof ball and a honest one at that. Keep watching everyone.”
Blajszczak leaves behind four children. He was 40-years-old.
Funeral arrangements are still pending.
