BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—According to WFTV-TV in Orlando, Florida a 32-year-old woman from Cross accused of killing her three kids by driving her minivan into the Atlantic Ocean off Daytona Beach wants to see them.
The TV station reported that a circuit court judge will hear Ebony Wilkerson’s request sometime today. So far, the judge has prohibited Wilkerson from having any contact with her children during a hearing in May.
According to Volusia County deputies, in early March, Wilkerson locked the doors of her 2012 Honda Odyssey, put up the windows and told her three frightened children to close their eyes and go to sleep.
She reportedly then ignored the children’s pleas for help, Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators learned, insisting that she was taking herself and her three children to “a safer place.”
She was allegedly in town visiting family and claimed to have heard “demon voices” when the incident occurred.
Wilkerson, who was also pregnant at the time, gave birth to a baby boy in May. During that same month, a psychiatrist stated that Wilkerson is no longer hallucinating and hearing voices.
Although the young mother is out of jail on a $90,000 bond, her children currently remain in protective custody.
