BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury, 79-year-old Marvin Wiggins of Pinopolis died in an accident that occurred on his farm Thursday afternoon.
Salisbury says Wiggins was working on a motor grader when the accident took place.
Wiggins was a well-known Berkeley County businessman and owner of Wiggins Construction Co. and The Berkeley Restaurant.
He also owned multiple hotels at the Highway 17A and I-26 interchange.
Ben Coker, the vice president and general manager of Ashley Landing Survey Inc., knew Wiggins for years. He said the two of them were closer than brothers.
“We were always there for each other. When he was bedridden for 6 weeks, I was there every evening to keep company until 10 at night,” stated Coker. “He was a man of impeccable character and irrefutable integrity and his heart was his compass. I will sorely miss my buddy. I am absolutely devastated.”
Salisbury says Wiggins death was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Dial-Murray in Moncks Corner, funeral arrangements are still pending at this time.
