According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, eleven people were killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, November 7th at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, November 9th at midnight.
As of November 9th, 659 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 678 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013.
Of that number, 34 people have died on roads in Berkeley County so far this year. That’s an increase from the prior year.
In 2013, 25 people died in traffic fatalities in Berkeley County. The same amount of people lost their lives in traffic accidents in 2012.
Greenville County has had the most traffic fatalities with 54 people killed on South Carolina roads this year.
Of the 454 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2014, troopers say that 222 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight November 9th, 85 pedestrians have died compared to 86 in 2013; 76 motorcyclists have died compared to 117 in 2013; and 12 bicyclists have died compared to 13 in 2013 on state roads and highways.
