BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Animal Planet’s “Finding Bigfoot” is headed to the lowcountry and wants to know if Sasquatch is alive and well in good ‘ol Berkeley County.
“We’d like to set up a town hall meeting in Berkeley County, if possible, sometime in January,” stated Animal Planet publicist Jennifer Sheeran.
Sheeran added that the show plans to also explore other parts of the lowcountry as well and even the upstate.
Believe it or not—there have been quite a few alleged Bigfoot sightings in Berkeley County. According to The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, since 1993 there have been four reported Bigfoot sightings in the area. The last documented sighting occurred in January 2007 in Ridgeville near Highway 176.
In January 2007, a mailman was delivering newspapers in Ridgeville early one Sunday morning when he says his headlights caught something off to the far left of his route.
“I observed a figure walking along the tree line along the edge of the cornfield away from my position,” he stated. “At first I thought it might be a man, but it was all black and it turned. and I saw large red eyes staring back. I could not make out its face, and it continued to walk away.”
The mailman stated that the furry creature appeared to be about six to seven feet tall
“It then continued walking away, and feeling spooked I drove out of there fast,” he added. “I know there are some bear in South Carolina, but they mostly reside in the upper part of the state. What I saw definitely was not a bear.”
Animal Planet is currently looking for locals who claim to have seen the legendary creature and are willing to talk about the encounter on its show “Finding Bigfoot.” If that sounds like you, you’re asked to email the show at: [email protected].
Debuting in 2011 and now in its fifth season, “Finding Bigfoot” travels to small towns in the South to remote areas of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska with four eccentric but passionate Bigfoot enthusiasts with one single-minded mission: to find the elusive “creature” known as Bigfoot.
