BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Radio and television personality, Lenard McKelvey, more commonly known as Charlamagne Tha God, will give away turkeys to the Moncks Corner community on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 12 p.m. in Berkeley High School’s old gymnasium.
Along with the turkey giveaway, there will be free health screenings and a children’s coat drive for the Callen-Lacy Children’s Center, which is located across the street from the high school.
When asked why he decided to hold this event, McKelvey, a native of Berkeley County said, “Giving is good and extremely important. I’ve always wanted to give back to my Moncks Corner community and now I have an opportunity to do that.”
McKelvey’s fame has not made him forget about home. Kinta Palmer, McKelvey’s cousin and community star in his own right, said the two started talking about things they could do to give back to the community.
“We tried to think of something we could do and one thing led to another and all of a sudden we were moving forward with this turkey giveaway, the health screenings and the clothing drive,” said Palmer.
When asked what he would like the community to take away from this event, McKelvey said, “I want people to understand the power of giving and to know that they should give whenever they can. The community should understand that they do not have to be extremely well off to give back. Every little bit counts.”
McKelvey is a co-host on Power 105’s The Breakfast Club. He stars in MTV and MTV2 shows Guy Code, Guy Court and Girl Code and is a video jockey for The Week in Jams. McKelvey also has a successful podcast and various sponsorship deals.
