BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The South Carolina Highway Patrol has announced the promotion of Michael A. Dangerfield to captain.
He will serve as the new commander for the Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), which is the collision reconstruction unit of the Patrol.
“The work of the MAIT Unit is critical to helping us find answers in complicated collision investigations,” said Col. Mike Oliver, commander of the Highway Patrol. “We are fortunate to have someone with Capt. Dangerfield’s extensive experience and knowledge to assume the reins and continue outstanding leadership of this unit.”
Capt. Dangerfield is nationally certified in collision reconstruction through the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR). He has served with the Highway Patrol since 1994, including 11 years with the MAIT Unit. Capt. Dangerfield’s served as a corporal in Florence, Marion and Dillon counties before transferring to the MAIT Unit.
He also proudly served five years with the U.S. Army from 1986 to 1991 stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia, Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and Germany.
Capt. Dangerfield, a native of Moncks Corner, lives in Conway with his wife, Susan, and his 16-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son.
