MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—According to Adam Hammons, the director for Berkeley Co. Elections and Registration, the special election for Moncks Corner’s next mayor will take place on March 31st, 2015.
“This is all based on Mayor Bill Peagler resigning on December 31st or January 1st,” added Hammons.
On January 2nd, U.S. Senator Tim Scott will swear in Peagler as Berkeley County’s newest county supervisor. The event will take place inside Berkeley Co. council chambers at noon.
After beating out longtime supervisor Dan Davis for the job during the runoff in July, Peagler must now step down as Moncks Corner’s mayor.
Michael Lockliear will serve as the town’s interim mayor. He is currently the town’s acting mayor pro-tem.
Hammons says individuals interested in running for Moncks Corner’s mayor can begin filing their applications at noon on January 16th, 2015.
The deadline to apply will be January 26th, 2015.
“The election will be held at Moncks Corner town hall,” added Hammons.
The filing fee for the mayoral election is $300, according to Hammons.
